I am a mixed media artist and full-time primary school teacher from Birmingham, England. Art has always been a form of therapy for me and a way to find my way back to myself when I feel I have lost my way. As an introvert it is often hard to voice how I feel, so I try to implement my thoughts and opinions within my artwork to communicate with the world. My work revolves around lived experiences of myself and those around me, centred around social injustice, mental wellbeing, body image, love, spirituality and self-love. I want to reflect real, lived experiences in society which may not be reflected in mainstream media. The piece ‘Radical Rest’ highlights the importance of mental wellbeing and self-care in black communities during times of injustice, and celebrates black literature, music, and black owned products. I would like to dedicate it to a close friend who inspired this piece and shared their experiences with me.
