About Maya Castillo

I am an artist/illustrator based in Boston, MA. My connection to art began when I was very little. I didn’t speak much as a young person, but art was the thing I felt most connected to. It allowed me to express myself when I felt like my voice was not heard. My work today is influenced by relationships between people, their environment, ancestors and spirit. I draw from my personal experience of being Black and Latinx, intersecting transracial adoption. My art is a practice of self-care, love and remembering. It is medicine.
