Balancing the Sacral Chakra

The Sacral Chakra aka Swadhisthana is the second main energy center in our bodies, that sits a couple of inches under our belly buttons. It houses our creativity, sensuality, sexual energy, our emotions and how we relate to other’s emotions. If this chakra is balanced, we ooze warmth, confidence and generosity.  Our relationship with self and with the world will feel nurturing and pleasureful. 


When specifically working with the Sacral Chakra that means we will be focusing on these exact things our relationships, creative power, sense of self, pleasure. We will learn to sit with our feelings…the deepest of feelings… learn how to express with others, and how to set and navigate boundaries. 


So what happens when this chakra is out of wack? Well physical pain like; UTIs, chronic pain in the lower back, cysts, impotence, issues with our abdomen, kidneys and bladder, and pain during sex.  Other things that can happen is that we can over indulge in our sexual fantasies or lose interest in sex all together. When the Sacral Chakra is not balanced we also run into issues expressing our emotions, creativity and needs. This can lead to depression, addiction, fear, overwhelm and other signs of emotional stability. 


What’s your favorite way to work on your Sacral Chakra? There are tons to choose from. My favorite? Stretches and yoga poses that open the hips(think happy baby or goddess pose) and baths (I do these nightly, but use salts and other things in place of essential oils). You can also tap into your creative energy - create something or do something that gets those juices flowing. For me? I play video games or watch my favorite fantasy shows when I’m stunned.
